A study published late last month found that dolphins have the ability to call out for lost loved ones when separated using a specific whistle. This whistle seems to be the dolphin equivalent of a name, as it only ever refers to one individual.
Previous research found that dolphins use a signature whistle to refer to themselves. Now, for the first time we have evidence that other dolphins mimic this signature whistle to call for the individual.
